Batwara 1947 Stumbles with ₹29 Crore in First Week at Box Office

Sunny Deol’s latest cinematic endeavor, Batwara 1947, directed by the acclaimed Rajkumar Santoshi, wrapped up its debut week with a total collection of ₹29 crore at the Indian box office. On its seventh day, Thursday, the film added a modest ₹1 crore to its earnings, marking a 10% dip from Wednesday’s numbers.

This historical drama, featuring an ensemble cast of Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, and Karan Deol, among others, is struggling to capture audience interest. The projections aren’t optimistic, with expectations suggesting a final tally between ₹40 to ₹45 crore, a figure that falls short of blockbuster territory.

Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 was anticipated with high hopes, especially after the roaring success of Gadar 2, which catapulted Sunny Deol back into the limelight after a hiatus of two decades.

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Partition, Batwara 1947 attempts to weave a narrative rich with historical and cultural themes. However, unlike the bold and forward-thinking narrative of the Gadar series, this film portrays Deol as a Pakistani defending a Hindu woman and her faith, a storyline that hasn’t resonated with the masses as intensely as Tara Singh’s iconic battles against Pakistan.
