New features enhance finding preferred sources in AI search
Google is enhancing its AI search capabilities to make it easier for users to locate content from their preferred websites and creators. The update includes a feature that allows users to label “Preferred Sources” in their settings. This will highlight preferred sites within AI-generated responses and new search carousels, making them more noticeable. Additionally, a “Highly Cited” badge will now appear on search results to help users identify original reporting and influential articles.
The update aims to simplify the process of finding trustworthy information by letting users set their preferred sources, which will be prominently displayed in AI experiences. These sources will be clearly labeled to stand out, just like in the Top Stories section. Users can easily set this up by visiting the source preferences in their Search personalization settings.
According to Google, people are twice as likely to click through to a Preferred Source, and over 345,000 unique sources have been selected by users already. AI responses will now feature “Preferred” labels, making it easy to identify content from your chosen sources, such as articles about the best zoos.
Google is also introducing new ways to explore articles and perspectives, particularly when users seek updates on developing topics. A new carousel will appear for certain searches, showcasing articles from Preferred Sources to make timely content more accessible. This feature also extends to searches where users might look for insights from online discussions, forums, and social media.
Moreover, a “Highly Cited” badge will be added to more web article links on the search results page. This label helps users easily find articles that are frequently referenced by other stories, thus directing them to the primary reporting. An article that references a Highly Cited source will also be indicated, assisting users in finding influential coverage of various topics.
These updates continue Google’s effort to connect users with high-quality content from the web, enhancing the search experience by highlighting trusted sources and unique perspectives. Google is committed to ongoing innovation in this area, with more developments on the horizon.
