New York City educators and industry leaders convene at Google to discuss AI in education
Technology is an invaluable asset in the classroom, prompting educators to consider a crucial question: How can we ensure students are equipped for future careers? To address this, Google, alongside the New York Jobs CEO Council and Urban Assembly, organized an AI summit attended by 150 leaders in education and industry.
The summit aimed to foster knowledge exchange between the individuals responsible for hiring in the future and those educating today’s learners. Among the interactive sessions were aiEDU’s “Vibe Coding” and Google’s “Meet LEA,” which allowed educators to delve into tools such as Google AI mode and NotebookLM. These tools are designed to ignite curiosity and enhance AI literacy.
A significant theme throughout the event was the real impact of AI in enabling problem-solving. Industry leaders highlighted that as technology makes processes more efficient, “human skills” like adaptability, collaboration, and critical thinking become increasingly vital.
While embracing these technological advancements, participants unanimously agreed on the necessity of maintaining a firm stance on privacy and equitable access. The key takeaway was that to effectively prepare upcoming generations, technological developments must be integrated with educational systems rather than bypass them.
Jane Martínez Dowling, Chief of Student Pathways for NYC Public Schools, and Steven Butschi from Google, shared industry insights during a fireside chat moderated by David Adams, CEO of Urban Assembly.
The summit also featured a breakout discussion focused on vibe coding, and Tequila Lamar from Google set the tone during the opening remarks at the AI Summit 2026. Attendees were treated to a real-time demonstration of Google Search Live.
