Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi: A Cinematic Spectacle on Hold Until 2027?

In an alternate world, Salman Khan’s much-anticipated cinematic journey, Maatrubhumi, would have already captivated audiences in theaters. Originally christened as Battle Of Galwan, this film underwent a transformation earlier this year, adopting its new title. Set amidst the dramatic backdrop of the 2020 India-China conflict, the movie found itself mired in controversy. As diplomatic relations between the two nations began to thaw, the Ministry of Defence voiced apprehensions about its sensitive theme, causing an unforeseen delay.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the creators are eager to gift the world with Maatrubhumi this year. However, it seems the cinematic spectacle might have to await its grand unveiling until 2027.

An industry insider revealed, “The concerns are yet to be addressed. Even if resolved soon, securing a prime release date poses a challenge, as most are already spoken for. In Bollywood, it’s customary for actors and filmmakers to claim dates previously reserved by others. Yet, Salman Khan stands apart. He is known for his fairness and avoids stirring unnecessary conflicts. Even if a date clash is inevitable, he ensures the other party is informed before any announcements are made.”

Dussehra: A Possible Release Window?

The insider suggested that the Dussehra period might offer a golden opportunity for Maatrubhumi‘s release. “Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 20, this year. The day preceding Dussehra is traditionally a major holiday, with box office collections witnessing a surge. This could translate into an extended five-day weekend bonanza for Maatrubhumi. With Ramayana potentially moving to October 30, and a lull in significant releases until late November, the stage might be perfectly set for Salman Khan’s film.”

Currently, Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar and Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh’s Gunmaaster G9 are both scheduled for an October 16 release. However, official announcements are still pending.

The insider added, “Should the concerns not be addressed swiftly, Maatrubhumi could be deferred to the following year, suggesting that 2027 might witness Salman Khan’s return with not one, but two films. The actor is also shooting for Vamshi Paidipally’s untitled venture, co-starring Nayanthara, slated for release next year.”
