Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will next fight Billy Joe Saunders in May

After successfully defeating Avni Yildirim and retaining his Worl Title on Saturday, Saul ‘Canelo’ will set up a World Title unification fight with Britain’s Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.

Alvarez retained his WBA and WBC titles on Saturday by cruising the Turkish challenger Avni Yildirim. After the victory of Mexico’s star Alvarez, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the forthcoming bout with Saunders.

Britain’s WBO Title will also put on the stake when the pairs meet in May to face the challenge. However, the venue for the fight has yet to be finalized. Both the challengers have a terrific record in the professional stand.

30 years old, Alvarez is a four-division world champion who has a record of 55 wins so far and gets defeated only once, the two matches were drawn while he has 37 knockouts, which is incredible. On the other hand, 31 years old, Saunders has an unbeaten record as he won all his 30 professional fights including 11 knockouts.

The IBF belt is held by American Caleb Plant (21-0), but this victory for Canelo will move him a step closer in his bid to become the first undisputed super-middleweight champion in boxing history.

“No-one has done it,” Alvarez said. “I want to make history. No-one has done it at 168[pounds].”

Saunders also said few words after getting the announcement of the fight against Alvarez in May and he is looking forward to rock and roll.

“You have to dare to be great and you are not going to be great if you don’t beat the greats,” said Saunders.
