Mirzapur: The Movie Garners ‘A’ Rating as CBFC Trims Intimate Scenes, Leaves Action Intact

The much-anticipated Mirzapur: The Movie has secured its release with an ‘A’ certificate, courtesy of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but not without a few snips and swaps along the way. The board demanded a trimming of 35 seconds worth of intimate scenes, alongside a cleansing of certain profane words and abusive language, giving the film a more polished veneer without sacrificing its raw grit.

What the CBFC Altered

According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC’s scissors snipped through parts of the movie, replacing a word in the opening scenes with “Kamar” and altering the term “lanth”—meaning “idiot”—to something less inflammatory in a later segment. Additionally, the film’s more colorful language was muted with carefully chosen alternatives.

The CBFC, known for its conservative stance on intimacy, requested that the filmmakers halve the duration of specific personal scenes, which resulted in a careful cut of 35 seconds during two pivotal moments, one early on and another post-intermission. This move ensured the film maintained its edge without tipping into territory deemed too risqué.

Action Uncut

Interestingly, despite the board’s ask for toned-down language and intimacy, not a single frame of the film’s intense action sequences was left on the cutting room floor. The gritty, thrilling essence of Mirzapur: The Movie remains fully intact, ensuring audiences will experience every pulse-pounding moment as intended.

The Final Cut

Clocking in at a robust 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 19 seconds, the film received its final nod from the CBFC Revising Committee, which comes into play if the initial Examining Committee suggests alterations. With the committee’s final seal of approval, the film is poised to unleash its gripping tale on the big screen.

A Star-Studded Lineup

Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the film boasts an ensemble cast sure to captivate audiences. Featuring talents such as Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, and Jitendra Kumar, among others, it promises a riveting experience. Other prominent names include Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, and Shweta Tripathi. This powerhouse cast will bring the electrifying story to life when Mirzapur: The Movie storms theaters on September 4.
