Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Faces Release Delay as CBFC Holds Certification
The anticipation surrounding Salman Khan’s latest cinematic venture, Maatrubhumi, has hit a snag as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has yet to green-light its release. This gripping war drama, initially titled Battle of Galwan, draws inspiration from the intense 2020 skirmish between Indian and Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley. Once marked to storm theaters on April 17, the film’s debut now hangs in the balance.
Maatrubhumi is helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner. At the heart of this cinematic tale is Salman Khan, who steps into the shoes of Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding hero of the 16 Bihar Regiment, charged with leading his troops amidst the turmoil of the Galwan Valley incident. Joining him on this journey is Chitrangda Singh, alongside pivotal performances from Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia.
The movie’s evocative soundtrack, crafted by Himesh Reshammiya, sets the stage for what promises to be a memorable experience. However, controversy has not been a stranger to Maatrubhumi. The film stirred a hornet’s nest when its trailer was unveiled, drawing criticism from users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, who argued it portrayed the Galwan Valley events inaccurately.
Title Change and Official Stance
In a bid to address concerns, the previously titled Battle of Galwan underwent a name change to Maatrubhumi, accompanied by alterations to the narrative. Contrary to some reports, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that it did not oppose the film. The teaser of Maatrubhumi was released with much fanfare on December 27, 2025, sharing the spotlight with Salman Khan’s milestone 60th birthday.
Salman Khan, last seen electrifying audiences in AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar alongside Rashmika Mandanna, now awaits the CBFC’s decision to bring Maatrubhumi to the silver screen. Until then, fans remain in suspense, eager for the official release date to be unveiled.
