Samsung Secures Multiple Accolades at Red Dot Design Awards 2023 for Innovative AI Solutions
Samsung Electronics has achieved notable recognition at the Red Dot Design Awards 2023, garnering a total of eight awards. Among these, two were the prestigious ‘Best of the Best’ accolades in the Design Concept category, awarded for Samsung Home Appliances Accessories and Samsung Kids Robot Dremo & Minimo. These award-winning concepts embody AI-driven designs that adapt to user contexts and preferences, offering personalized experiences and envisioning future lifestyle innovations.
Mauro Porcini, President and Chief Design Officer (CDO) of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the importance of technology understanding human needs, stating, “Guided by our Expressive Design approach, we will continue exploring how technology can better understand each individual, adapt naturally to their needs, and inspire more personal and meaningful experiences for the future.”
The Red Dot Design Award, established in 1955 by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, is one of the most esteemed global design honors, recognizing excellence in three primary categories: Product Design, Design Concept, and Brands & Communication Design. The Design Concept category specifically acknowledges innovative ideas before they evolve into market-leading products.
Highlights of ‘Best of the Best’ Design Concepts
The Samsung Home Appliances Accessories concept introduces an advanced design for consumables management and disposal through a color-coding system. Filters for devices like air purifiers and vacuum cleaners, which require periodic replacement, are color-coded based on disposal methods: gray for semi-permanent parts, green for recyclables, and brown for general waste. This intuitive system simplifies proper disposal methods without additional instructions.
Samsung Kids Robot Dremo & Minimo represents a forward-thinking robotic concept for children, offering personalized AI interactions. Users can customize the AI character by defining its name, personality, and voice. Dremo, the primary robot, functions at home, while Minimo, a portable version, maintains connectivity on the go. This concept envisions an AI companion that evolves alongside a child, adapting to their interests and developmental stages.
