Meta VR Glasses: A Lightweight Cinema, Office, and Sports Experience
Introducing Meta VR Glasses, a highly advanced device that serves as a personal cinema, gaming console, workspace, and courtside seat. All of this is packed into a lightweight pair of glasses weighing approximately 100 grams, similar to a deck of cards. The design features open sides and a passthrough camera, allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings while enjoying movies or working privately during long flights.
Designed for Comfort and Performance
The Meta VR Glasses are significantly lighter than the Meta Quest 3, thanks to a unique two-part system. The glasses themselves contain the sensors and display, while a separate puck manages computing, battery, and storage. This puck connects via an optical tether and can be conveniently clipped onto a pocket or bag. The glasses boast a 5K Infinite Display using micro-OLED panels with 37 pixels per degree for exceptional clarity, particularly useful for reading text.
With ultra-compact pancake lenses, these glasses deliver cinema-grade quality. Dolby Vision enhances the viewing experience with vivid colors and sharp contrasts, while Dolby Atmos spatial audio is embedded into the frames for immersive sound. Users interact with Meta VR Glasses using voice commands, eye movements, and natural hand gestures, eliminating the need for controllers. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, which ensures fast load times and high efficiency. The puck provides up to three hours of high-resolution media playback and supports fast charging at 45W.
An Immersive Entertainment Experience
Meta VR Glasses are the first VR device to receive IMAX Enhanced certification, offering a unique way to watch select films in an expanded aspect ratio at home. Starting in November, Disney+ subscribers in certain countries can stream movies like Marvel’s The Avengers and Black Panther in 3D with themed environments such as Tatooine and Avengers Tower. The Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app further enhances this experience with dynamic effects and 3D visuals.
Meta is collaborating with partners like Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, and others to bring a robust media lineup to Meta VR Glasses. Additionally, platforms like Peacock and HBO Max are debuting their 3D catalogs for the first time. By launch, thousands of titles, including 3D favorites from Lionsgate, will be available. A partnership with director James Cameron will also introduce “first time in 3D” blockbusters in 2027.
Sports fans can enjoy “Immersive Sports” through collaborations with ESPN, offering 8K streaming and 180-degree views. Once launched, Meta VR Glasses will provide access to over 100 live sports events annually, thanks to partnerships with MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC.
Your Portable Office
With these glasses, users can access a large screen or multiple screens virtually anywhere, creating a private workspace. Any flat surface can become a keyboard or touchpad, allowing for typing without extra hardware. Users can see their desk and surroundings through full-color passthrough while working.
For gaming enthusiasts, more than 75 games will be available at launch, playable with hand gestures alone. XBOX Cloud Gaming will also provide access to hundreds of additional games.
Hologram Calling and Future Launch
Meta is introducing hologram technology for photorealistic, hands-free video calls. The glasses project a digital version of the user, complete with real-time expressions, making it feel as if the person is in the same room. These holograms can be viewed on mobile phones or computers by other call participants. This technology is compatible with various calling apps including WhatsApp and Zoom.
Meta VR Glasses will be available for purchase in the spring of 2027, priced at $1,299.99 USD.
