Create and edit videos with new Google Vids updates
Google Vids has introduced two new features, Gemini Omni and personal avatars, making video creation simpler than ever. These updates allow users to generate and edit high-quality videos using everyday language, as well as create custom digital avatars to feature in their videos.
Gemini Omni is a new feature in Google Vids that enables users to generate and edit videos by inputting simple text prompts and image references. Additionally, users can create a digital avatar to convey messages by uploading a selfie and a voice recording. Eligible users can start using these tools for their video projects immediately.
By using AI technology, Google Vids enables video creation through straightforward text descriptions. Users can adjust their clips by describing the changes they want. For those who prefer not to appear on camera, personal avatars can be created to resemble the user’s appearance and voice. Every AI-generated video will include a distinct watermark to indicate that it was created using AI.
The rollout of Gemini Omni and personal avatars aims to simplify the video creation, editing, and personalization process. With Gemini Omni, generating and refining high-quality clips is as simple as writing a prompt. Personal avatars offer a new way to be featured in videos without needing to use a camera.
In the past year, millions of videos have been created in Google Vids to share stories and ideas. In February, Google simplified the process by introducing Veo 3.1, enabling everyone to generate videos within Vids. Now, with Gemini Omni, users can create and edit videos easily by describing what they envision. Starting with a simple text prompt and adding image references such as photos or sketches, Omni combines these inputs to produce videos that match users’ visions.
Making a video perfect often requires adjustments after the initial draft, and now these tweaks can be made by simply describing the desired changes. Whether refining a video generated with Omni or a clip shot on a phone, users can prompt Vids to change backgrounds, correct lighting, or add effects using everyday language. Omni’s support for step-by-step edits means you can make changes without starting from scratch.
For quick video updates or personalized messages without the need to get camera-ready, personal avatars can be created that look and sound like the user. By uploading a selfie and a short voice recording, users can type the message they want their avatar to deliver, eliminating the need for recording.
Gemini Omni and personal avatars are available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as Google Workspace business customers. The personal avatar feature is currently limited to users in specific regions who are 18 or older. Avatars are linked to a user’s Google account and must resemble the account holder’s likeness.
To ensure transparency, every AI-generated video includes an invisible SynthID digital watermark, allowing verification that a video was created with AI. This encourages users to explore their creativity and responsibly share their AI-generated videos.
