Gemini Notebook: A New Chapter for NotebookLM
We are excited to announce the renaming of NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. While it remains a standalone product, it now integrates more fully within the Google ecosystem. With an updated secure cloud computer, it offers enhanced capabilities for conducting research.
The Vice President of Google Labs, Gemini app, and AI Studio shared insights about this transition, emphasizing how the change aligns with Google’s broader AI initiatives. Users can expect the same robust research tool, now equipped to execute code directly within notebooks for more thorough data analysis. This feature will soon be available to all Pro users.
The rebranding to Gemini Notebook signifies its integration into Google’s expansive AI family. Despite the name change, the tool’s core function as a research aid remains, now enhanced to facilitate data analysis through code execution. Additionally, users can sync their notes across various applications, ensuring they are accessible whenever needed, enhancing the study and work experience.
Initially introduced at Google I/O 2023 as Project Tailwind, NotebookLM aimed to assist in learning and has since been adopted by over 30 million users and 600,000 organizations. It supports diverse applications, from creating interactive materials to converting notes into multimedia formats.
Today marks the official rebranding of NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. It continues to offer a dedicated research experience but now stretches its capabilities across platforms like the Gemini app and Google Search. An update providing each notebook with a secure cloud computer has begun rolling out, allowing users to write and run code natively for advanced data analysis. This service is currently available to Google AI Ultra users and Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access. The rollout to all Pro users will follow in the upcoming weeks.
The goal is for digital notebooks to be as versatile as their physical counterparts, adapting to where you work. Users can create and access notebooks within the Gemini app, with seamless syncing between the app and the standalone Gemini Notebook. Plans to incorporate notebooks directly into AI Mode in Search are also underway.
We extend our gratitude to those who have supported us since Project Tailwind’s inception in 2023. We look forward to continuing the development of this ecosystem together. We invite you to explore the new features and share your discoveries with us.
