Google renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook
Google has officially renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. Despite the name change, it remains a standalone product designed to serve as a primary research tool. This update brings enhanced integration within the Google ecosystem, including improvements in the Gemini app and Google Search, alongside the introduction of a secure cloud computer.
According to the VP of Google Labs, the renaming signifies its inclusion in Google’s broader AI initiatives. While continuing to excel as a research tool, Gemini Notebook now offers the capability to run code directly within notebooks, facilitating more advanced data analysis. This feature is gradually being made available to all Pro users.
The debut of NotebookLM, initially known as Project Tailwind, occurred during Google I/O 2023. Its primary goal was to aid in learning. Presently, more than 30 million users and over 600,000 organizations utilize it for various purposes, such as creating interactive onboarding materials and transforming notes into multimedia summaries.
The recent update to Gemini Notebook includes a secure cloud computer for every notebook, allowing users to write and execute code natively. This advancement is designed to enhance the accuracy and power of research conducted through the platform. Currently, this feature is accessible to Google AI Ultra users and Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access, with plans to extend it to all Pro users online in the coming weeks.
Users can already create and access notebooks within the Gemini app, with full synchronization across apps, enhancing the functionality of the standalone Gemini Notebook experience. Soon, notebooks will also be integrated into the AI Mode in Search, broadening the scope of their use.
Google expresses gratitude to its user base since the inception of Project Tailwind in 2023 and looks forward to continued collaboration. Users are encouraged to explore the new features and provide feedback.
